Ohio House Committee moves Sub HB 343 forward

The Ohio House Transportation and Public Safety Committee voted unanimously, 10-0, on May 18 to send Substitute House Bill 343 to the full House for consideration. Sub HB 343 limits the number of passengers to no more than one who is not a family member for 16-17 year olds. It also extends their night-time driving limits to midnight to 6 a.m. from 1 to 5 a.m.

AAA and the Ohio Teen Driver Coalition encourage members to contact their state representatives and senators to urge passage of this important bill. Please view our sample letter to legislators or call 216-606-6700 if you need assistance identifying legislators in your area.

“This bill, if passed into law, will help reduce the staggering number of deaths on Ohio’s roads involving new drivers,” said Brian Newbacher, a spokesman for the Ohio Teen Driver Coalition and director of public affairs for AAA East Central. “Teen crashes are more likely to occur at night and when there are passengers in the car.”
