Dear ____________:

I am writing to seek your support for House Bill 343.

As you know, new drivers under 17 years old would be prohibited from transporting more than one non-family member unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The bill also establishes tighter night-time driving restrictions for new drivers under 17 years old by prohibiting them from driving between midnight and six a.m. unless accompanied by a parent or guardian.  For 17-18 year olds, the restriction is limited to the hours between one and five a.m.  Law enforcement officials may not stop a vehicle solely to enforce this restriction.

It is evident to me that teens are much more distracted when there are other teens in the car.  Young drivers are more likely to take chances due to their immaturity and inexperience.

I believe any inconveniences created by this bill would be far outweighed by the positive effects that law would have for both teens and other motorists on the road.  Please do all you can to get the proposed bill passed and soon. Thank you.

Sincerely,

_____________
