Summary of Sub House Bill 343
Temporary Permit
- Obtain at age 15 and half years old
- Has permit in car
- Driver must be accompanied by a licenced operator who is either a parent or a legal guardian
for age 15½ - 16
- After age 16 during temporary permit, driver must be accompanied by a licensed operator 21 or
over and not intoxicated.
- Total number of occupants cannot exceed number of restraining devices in the vehicle.
- Hour restrictions: 12 midnight – 6 a.m.
- Except with a parent/guardian who is not intoxicated.
- Hour restriction is not a primary enforcement.
Probationary License
- 16 to 17 years old
- Hour restrictions: 12 midnight – 6 a.m.
- Exemption for when traveling to or from work with a note.
- Employers cannot be held liable for damages in a civil action.
- Exemption for official functions sponsored by school.
- Exemption for emergency.
- No more than one non-family member
- Except when driver is with a parent or guardian.
- During first 6 months of a probationary license (starting on day obtained), or if over 16 years
6 months but less than 17, if a driver receives a moving violation, there are increased penalties:
- Must be accompanied by parent/guardian.
- 17 to 18 years old
- Hour restrictions: 1 a.m.– 5 a.m.
- Exemptions for when traveling to or from work with a note
- Employers cannot be held liable for damages in a civil action.
- Exemption for official functions sponsored by school.
- Exemption for emergency.
