Learner’s Permit

• Minimum age is 15 years and 6 months
• Mandatory holding period – six months
• No more passengers than seat belts in the vehicle
• Driver education requirement 

Additional improvements Effective 7/1/1999

Learner’s Permit

• 50 hours. of supervised driving, 10 of which must be at night

Intermediate stage

• Minimum age 16
• Unsupervised driving prohibited from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m., secondary enforcement
• Nighttime restriction may be lifted at age 17
